Why you should do a 'first look' with your bridesmaids
Lets chat ‘first looks’: Some brides opt for a first look with their future partner, some opt for a first look with their father, and some opt for a first look with their bridesmaids - some do all three!
I think all first looks are great for their own reasons, but here are a few reasons why doing a first look with your bridesmaids could be a wonderful addition to your wedding day.
If you’ve been a bridesmaid before, then you know that more often than not, the getting ready portion of the day can be a bit more hectic than planned. By intentionally planning for 10-15 minutes to do a first look before you leave your getting ready space to head to the ceremony site, you are creating a window of time where all of the hectic energy from rushing around is put aside. A great way to do this, is to set a time for all of your bridesmaids to be ready by - aim for 30 minutes before you plan to leave. Once they are all ready, you can either have them leave the room, or you can go to a separate room to put your dress on. Usually, your photographer will be with you to capture your mom, or maid of honour helping you into the dress. Once it is on, you are ready to go & your details are finalized, have someone organize your bridesmaids in a line or semi-circle facing the door you plan to come out of or open up. Your photographer will position themselves behind you so that they can capture their reactions as they see you in your dress for the first time!
Even though your bridesmaids will most likely see your hair and makeup as during the morning, it will still be a big reveal for them to see you with the dress on and the whole look put together. You will get beautiful, genuine reactions from your girls which make for the most incredible and meaningful photos.
Lastly, so much of your wedding day is centered around you and your spouse, as it should be! However, your bridesmaids are SUCH an important part and once the getting ready portion of the day is over, it is likely you will be focused on your spouse and all of your guests. By setting the intentional time together to do a first look, you are ensuring a calm and meaningful moment together as a group before your busy day ensues.
