Now offering Super 8 Films
I AM NOW OFFERING SUPER 8 FILMS - YAY!!
This little dream of mine started last year when I saw a wedding video captured on Super 8 film. The video felt so honest, so simple and so nostalgic - I was instantly hooked. This past April, I decided to dig deeper into information about Super 8 film and cameras and started this project. I bought a few super 8 cameras, a few reels of super 8 film, and began filming & practicing.
My first big super 8 film project was Lara + Griffins wedding day, I didn’t even warn them, I just showed up with this big super 8 camera and asked if they’d be OK with me filming their elopement alongside doing photos (I had a feeling they would be on board.. lol)! The catch was, this was my first real test with the film cameras and I really didnt know if they’d even work. Thankfully, Lara and Griffin accepted the gamble & happily agreed - I am so thankful that they did, because the film turned out and it’s pretty dang amazing if I say so myself! Watch it below:
After I finished filming their elopement, I sent the film off to California to be developed, scanned and processed - the waiting was SO hard, I think I refreshed my email around 10 times per day anticipating the message containing the digital copy! The moment it arrived in my inbox I grabbed Jason and we sat in the living room to watch the video through - I cried. It felt exactly how I wanted it to - honest, simple & nostalgic.
Early on in this journey, I remember telling Jason that my goal was to make the films seem like they were captured by an old uncle or aunt who brought along their ‘vintage’ video camera to a wedding day. I don’t think these films necessarily need to capture the beautiful posed moments, but rather the in-between and the casual. A good example of this in Lara & Griffins film is when she is brushing off the shoulder of his suit - it is so simple, unprompted, & such a natural moment. Ugh - can you tell I just love this so much?!
Anyway, since then I have gone on to film a few couples sessions - & now I am so excited to have this as an option for my couples to add on to their photo packages.
If you are interested in the process, there is a bit more information about that here.
